what to wear to your spring family photo session

March 23, 2015 · 10 Comments

In need of some inspiration for what to wear to your spring family photo session? Look no further. This year’s what to wear features mostly clothes from jcrew. Pin it, share it, tuck it away for our next session, or just ogle and enjoy!

I’ve been really into mixing patterns lately, like plaids and stripes, for some texture, interest and *pop*. The trick to doing it successfully is to choose the right scale pattern. If stripes are too thin, then they look very busy in photos. When you pair a stripe with a plaid, be sure to choose one that will be larger scale than the other. In this example, I chose a larger scale plaid with a medium stripe.

When I begin choosing outfits for family photos, I always stick to a neutral palette first and then select one or two colors to feature. And since it’s spring and florals are on trend this year, I went with a floral light pink and then layered in navy, gray, cream and little gold touches. The end result is so fresh and clean and will coordinate really well with the springtime green grass and trees in the background.

Navy tends to photograph better than black. Country chic is so fun and there’s a lot you can do with it. From a photographer’s standpoint, I’d recommend trying to find something with texture, like lace or ruffles, and then either dressing it up or down with accessories and maybe some ankle booties.

I’d probably wear a navy dress with a big turquoise statement necklace and some cowgirl style brown ankle boots, maybe even with some bling on them 🙂 and then throw on a big chunky knit in case it got chilly.

Hope that helps! Send me pictures with what you end up wearing!
